Questions at the counter
Does everyone need an app or an account?
No. The department is a set of private links that open in the browser on any phone, tablet or computer. Share the family link however you like: text, email or the family group chat. Each person taps their name and picks a short code, so their phone remembers them.
Who can see what?
It depends on the link. Nothing is public or listed on search engines, so only people you share a link with can get in.
- The family link shows everyone’s lists and who’s called dibs, except on your own list.
- Your own list shows only your wishes, and never what’s been claimed, so no surprises get spoiled.
- Each person’s guest link is for people outside the family, like on a baby shower invite. Guests see only that one list and which gifts are taken.
- The workshop is just for the organizer. It needs the organizer code.
Is it okay for kids’ lists?
That’s what it was made for. There are no ads, no tracking and no public profiles. You choose the names that show up, and a first name or a nickname is plenty. Birthdays are only used for countdowns and age-appropriate settings, like never asking young kids to chip in.
Can wishes come from any store?
Yes. Paste a link from anywhere, or just write what it is, like “roller skates, size 13, purple if possible.”
What about more than one occasion at once?
That’s normal here. The top of the page shows the two closest dates with their countdowns, and each wish can be tagged for a birthday, a holiday or any time.
How does the free trial work?
Type your family’s name and your email, and your department opens straight away, with no card. You get 14 days with everything in it. Your workshop shows how many days are left and has a Subscribe button. Subscribe and nothing changes for your family. If you don’t, the department closes when the trial ends, and you have 60 days to subscribe and get it back before the lists are deleted. One free trial per email.
What happens after a year?
It’s $19 a year per family. Our first 25 founding families pay $15 a year for as long as they keep their department, and you’ll get a reminder email before it renews. If you’d rather stop, cancel any time in your billing page. Your department stays open until the end of the year you paid for, then closes on its own. Or close it from the workshop straight away, which deletes every list in it.
Can I get a refund?
Yes, within 7 days of your first purchase. Just email hello@thewishlistdepartment.app. Renewals aren’t refunded, but you’ll get a reminder email before each one, and you can cancel in your billing page any time up to 24 hours before it renews. The full details are on the refunds page.
How does it work once I have it?
There’s a step-by-step guide for setting it up, browsing the family link and adding wishes. It’s also linked at the bottom of every page in your department.
I lost my workshop link, or forgot my code
No problem. Type the email you paid or signed up with and we’ll send your link again. It also lets you pick a new organizer code. Anyone else who forgets their code can ask the organizer to reset it.
